Sydney’s Gelato King

From one scoop (or two) to one show-stopping MC.

For over 30 years, Peter was the heart and soul behind Giotto Gelato in Smithfield. Known for his award-winning recipes and his warm smile behind the counter, he became a household name – with families travelling from all corners of Sydney just to get a taste of his legendary gelato. It’s no wonder he has earned the title of Sydney’s Gelato King.

So how does a gelato king become a master of ceremonies and presenter?
Simple: it’s the same recipe – passion, dedication, and a touch of magic.

As a kid, Peter had three big dreams: to become a gelato maker, become a drummer and learn Kung Fu. Ambitious? Absolutely. But if you know Peter, you know he doesn't do things by halves.

At just 22, with no business experience (and barely a clue how to scoop ice cream properly), he took a leap of faith and dove headfirst into the gelato game. He became obsessed with perfecting his craft—balancing flavour, texture, and technique to create something unforgettable. He knocked on doors across Sydney, pitching his product to anyone who’d listen. Most said no. But Peter kept going.

One chef suggested he enter the Dairy Industry Awards of NSW. He did—and he didn’t just win. He scooped up gold, silver, and “Best Gelato in NSW.” That first win set him on a journey to becoming one of the country’s most awarded gelato makers, culminating in 2017 with the prestigious Champion Gelato Award, where judges gave him 99.9 out of 100. When asked why not 100, they replied: “There’s no such thing as perfect.” But Peter came pretty damn close.

So what about those other childhood dreams?

Peter didn’t just learn Kung Fu—he mastered it. After 30 years of training under Grand Master Jeremy Chin. He holds the Rare distinction of Kung Fu master. That same discipline, focus, and energy carries into every event he hosts.

And the drumming? You can catch him behind the kit, lighting up dance floors as the drummer in his five-piece band, The J.Cs.

These days, Peter channels his boundless charisma into being a dynamic MC and presenter. Whether he’s on the mic or behind the scenes, he brings the same passion he once poured into every scoop of gelato. He’s all about creating unforgettable moments—on stage, on the dance floor, or anywhere a great time is being had.

Peter G is living proof that when you mix dreams with grit, the results are sweet.
